The first thing we want to do is to give thanks to the LORD for the overwhelming blessings that He has bestowed on us. And second, we want to say a heart-felt thanks to all the great clients that gave us the opportunity to be a part of their hunting experiences this year.

2007 has been a very busy and productive year for Deltana Outfitters!

As you know from our past newsletters we are constantly working on updating the Deltana web site to make it more interesting and useful. In December, after many months of hard work by some very talented people, we got the new web site posted. Although it is not yet complete, we think it is a great improvement. Please be patient as we work on it. Updates are being done frequently so when you go to the web site please be sure to hit your refresh button so you will see the newest updates. As always, we look forward to your comments and suggestions for its improvement.

This fall season as we headed north to our base camp in the Brooks Range an important priority was to upgrade the cabins. They are now all wired for electric lights, and they are insulated and paneled on the inside. We also installed new windows and painted all the cabins. And finally, we also remodeled the kitchen and dinning room. The crew worked hard to make this remote camp comfortable for our guests.

Now lets move on to what we all like to talk about.....hunting! 2007 was a great year for us and our hunters in the Brooks Range. Weather was terrific and our guests were some of the finest people and hunters that any outfitter could ask for. With good weather and great hunters this season was a real pleasure. We harvested some impressive Dall sheep rams, and once more the rams were old mature specimens with an average age of around 12 - 13 years. Out of 18 hunters we took 15 very good rams, as you can see from the photo at right.

As may know, in our Brooks Range camp our sheep hunters also have the opportunity to combine their sheep hunt with a great caribou hunt. The Brooks Range has a herd of about 250,000 barren ground caribou. This can be a great addition to your Dall sheep hunt.

Caribou hunting this fall was quite good. Warm weather may have slowed caribou movement down a little, but our caribou hunters did very well and took some very good trophies.

As in most seasons, several husbands brought wives along. And as always, the girls had a great time and harvested some great trophies as well. Also, like in most years we had several father/daughter or father/son teams come up and experience something very special. The kids had a blast! It is always a delight for us to be a small part of these family experiences. To all husbands & fathers please think about getting your family more involved in your hunts. They will remember it the rest of their lives, and so will you. It may well make it the very best hunt you have ever been on in your entire life. Family and friends are our most precious procession. Lets get them involved in this great sport we love.

All in all, the 2007 fall Brooks Range season was one of the best yet!

This past October was brown bear season down on the Alaska Peninsula -- and what a great season it turned out to be! Our hunters took some terrific bears, three of them well over 10 ft.

Come See Us at SCI Reno!

We are starting to get ready for the SCI convention in Reno, NV coming up now in just a few weeks (January 23rd - 26th, 2008). As always we will be there to visit with you and meet old and new friends. This year our booth numbers will be 329,331,333.  Please plan to stop by and look over some photos of trophies our hunters took this season! Next year, it could be you in the photo! We truly look forward to the Reno show. SCI is a great time for us. We very much enjoy visiting with friends and making new ones.

Sheep / Grizzly / Caribou Combination Hunt

After the great news of the state offering non-resident tags for grizzly bear in our area, four of our sheep hunters took hunt grizzlies this fall. All four harvested very nice bear with three of them going over eight feet! What a great combination hunt this makes. Think about it -- a real honest chance to harvest a Dall ram, grizzly bear and caribou on one hunt. It just can't get much better that that!

North Face Tents and Sleeping Bags

If you have hunted with us you know that we use new North Face tents and sleeping bags for our clients each year. At the end of the hunting season, we clean and sell this almost new equipment on the web site to outdoors people all over the world. If you need a great tent or sleeping bag at a great price, give us a call or check out the web site for what we have and prices, because it is time for us to order our new stock for the upcoming year. Don't miss the chance to own some outstanding gear at a very good price. These items don't last long.

Available Hunts

As for the 2008 season, at this time we do have a few open Dall sheep hunts, and several open caribou hunts.  Moose hunts are full and all 2008 brown bear hunts are full. It really is the time now to book your 2008 or 2009 hunt to get the dates you would like.  We work at keeping the website up-to-date, so you can check hunt availability at any time.

Since this will be our first newsletter for 2008, we want to express our thanks to all who have helped to make this one of our best years yet. And things are looking even better for the 2008 season! We have some of the very best hunting areas in Alaska and we hope you will have a chance soon to join us in this amazing wildlife-filled wilderness.

We do want to wish you a Happy New Year. We look forward to seeing you this winter in Reno, in one of our hunting camps, or better yet – both!  Please call today or use our contact form and let's start talking about a hunt!

Good Hunting & God Bless
